Yesterday morning the sky looked dark, swirly, ominous. The rain eventually came crashing down, but between raindrops some exciting things happened.
FIRST CAME THE ARRIVAL OF THE JOYBOX EXPRESS
If you don’t know what that is, check out joyboxexpress.com. They are a group of wonderful musicians led by Mr. B (Mark Braun) that travels across the state playing top-rate boogie woogie and blues numbers, raising money for children’s charities.
Carl Hildebrant, bassist, came in advance of the rest of the crew.

He made Lunch Room history by being the first to eat a BBQ tofu sandwich while sitting on a bicycle.

Check out Carl’s rig. In his trailer he carries his upright bass, Brian Delaney’s guitar and amp, and Pete Siers’ drum kit.

The rest of the crew enjoyed cookies and smoothies. From L to R: Carl Hildebrandt, Lance Wagner, Phillis, Brian Delaney, Mr. B., and Pete Siers.

Before leaving, Mr. B whipped off the cover of the piano and struck up a number on Washington St.

THE JOYBOX EXPRESS LEFT AND SOON THE RAIN CAME CRASHING DOWN.

We rescued some courtyard diners from the rain. Here are Martin and Michael from a Bloomfield Hills law firm, in town for the day … as Dmitri looks on.
THE RAIN CLEARED AND THE WEATHER WAS BEAUTIFUL FOR DINNER.

Jeff and Rena Basch were among our evening patrons. The Lunch Room was honored to host this pair on their first of four nights sans young children (just dropped off in Maryland to visit grandparents).

They celebrated with a Lunch Room feast extraordinaire!
